Would you like to challenge writers and artists?

Do your creative juices flow, does your brain kick into high gear as you search for the perfect pairing, the right scenario to fit the challenge?

Do you want to be challenged in the true sense of the word?

It's often difficult to find inspiration, to think of a new and unique idea or tackle a standard trope from a different angle. The goal of the_challenger is to be one of the places where you can find that much needed jumpstart for your muse.

To post you must be a member of the community.

To join you must be at least 18 years of age.

On the first of each month, the moderators will post an open-call for challenges. Everyone is invited to submit challenges; all comments will be screened. The best challenges (and the ones more likely to be written!) will give some direction, but are not overly prescriptive or detailed. Please read the general challenge guidelines for more hints on writing a challenge.

If a challenge contains excessive restrictions or details, the mods will contact the challenger to ask if we might alter it slightly to better fit the guidelines of the comm. Or, if you'd like to keep it as originally written, we may add a second, less detailed challenge with the same general theme.

Each Wednesday, one challenge will be posted to the community. If it sounds like something you might like to work on, please leave a comment expressing your interest. This isn't mandatory and won't obligate you to complete the challenge; it's just a way for us to keep track of which challenges seem the most interesting to everyone.

Participants will have eight (8) weeks to complete each challenge. However, if the deadline has passed you may still post your work to the community (and are strongly encouraged to do so). Anyone who completes a challenge by the deadline will receive a banner to honor the achievement. All completed pieces will be recognized each month, whether posted within the original deadline or not.

Original fiction and all fandoms are welcome. Creations may be of any genre and feature both real and fictional person pairings; stories must be a minimum of 100 words in length.

This is a slash, gen and het friendly community. Flaming will not be tolerated.

Please use standard headers (warnings where appropriate) plus one additional line:
"Created for: Challenge # XXX at the_challenger"

You may post directly to the community or link to your own journal. We only ask that the additional "created for" line noted above is included in all headers wherever the piece is posted.
